I am proud to have joined the board of KALW Public Media, which is much more than a radio station. It’s an organization dedicated to amplifying community voices, capturing the full breadth and beauty of the Bay Area, and inspiring people to take action to support the place we call home. 

KALW recently launched a $500,000 campaign to raise money for the People’s Studio, its new home at the Warfield Commons. Moving to the historic Warfield building in the heart of downtown San Francisco is a critical step forward in KALW’s ability to make an impact: increasing the quality and reach of its nationally recognized audio training programs; connecting audiences to the Bay Area’s creative scene through expanded music programming, arts and culture coverage, and live events; and serving as an incubator for new ideas, new voices, and new programs. 

A lot of capital campaigns are designed for people who can make major gifts. KALW is different. We want to give everyone a chance to be part of the People’s Studio, which is why I’m inviting contributions from friends, colleagues, family – anyone who loves the Bay Area and wants original news and cultural programming to thrive.

A lot of us are struggling these days, including financially. I have made supporting KALW Public Media a priority because it brings people together at a time when we need our communities and our news sources to be connected, lively, and strong. 

Gifts of any size are meaningful. And KALW is offering a special opportunity for current members and those who join as a new member.  An additional gift of at least $500 will earn you permanent recognition on a wall of thanks to be installed in the People’s Studio. I’ve already made my donation, and hope you will join me on that wall!
